The Health Information Technology Advisory Committee (HITAC) consists of a dedicated group of experts who volunteer their time and expertise to provide recommendations on ONC policies and programs.
In 2019, the HITAC delivered recommendations to the National Coordinator focused on the:
- ONC proposed rule for the 21st Century Cures Act, in the areas of Information Blocking, Conditions and Maintenance of Certification, Health IT for the Care Continuum, and the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI);
- Proposals on the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) Draft 2;
- USCDI Data Element Promotion Model; and
- Priority uses of health IT and related standards and implementation specifications.
ONC is considering these recommendations in developing ONC’s upcoming 21st Century Cures Act: Interoperability, Information Blocking, and ONC Health IT Certification Program final rule, TEFCA implementation, and our standards work. We greatly appreciate the volunteer hours and expertise that the HITAC members contribute.
On January 15, 2020, at our next HITAC meeting, we will discuss what the HITAC will work on in 2020. All of the HITAC meetings are open to the public and include the opportunity for public comment. You can find more about the HITAC and how to participate in HITAC meetings or a HITAC subcommittee on HealthIT.gov.
